MSU-IIT bans Single-Use Plastic
Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) moves to impose a stricter ban on single-use plastic products and tarpaulin within its campus. The Memorandum order was issued last April 25, 2019, and now will be strictly followed after a nearly 2-month adjustment period.
This applies to all its constituents and visitors which means any single-use plastics such as mineral water bottles, disposable utensils, plastic bags, etc., will be confiscated upon entering the campus. The use of tarpaulin is also banned, instead, all its constituents are encouraged to use cloth streamers and paper posters.

Food vendors and canteen operators inside the campus are no longer allowed to use plastics as food containers or packing material for dine or take-out. Soft drinks are sold in glass bottles, while the others are in cupboards.
“The prohibition of using plastic inside the campus is such a great step towards promoting a healthier environment. So far, upon the effectivity of the policy, I’ve seen positive changes. I can now see a more clean, eco-friendly IIT,” said Ms. Kristyn Shaika Catiloc, a BS-IT student.
This plastic ban policy enjoined all its employees and students to bring their own reusable plates, utensils, tumbler/water jug, and other ecologically-friendly food containers, as MSU-IIT implements more measures for environmental protection.
