Leading integrated telco network PLDT Inc (PLDT) is encouraging its customers and communities to work closely with authorities against suspicious, service-related activities in their areas.

This is in light of recent incidents in Davao del Norte, where subscribers were scammed by persons misrepresenting themselves as PLDT personnel.

“We would like to remind our subscribers to be vigilant against various scams, and to report suspicious incidents to local authorities in their area,” said Alan Abrina, Customer Service South Mindanao Area Head at PLDT, adding that PLDT is also collaborating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Davao Region and Davao City to help keep its customers safe from scammers.

PLDT also reminded subscribers that PLDT field technicians or sales personnel would not recover their modems without replacing them first.

Persons who would like to report such incidents can also do so via PLDT’s Hotline 164 – just call “164” on any landline or mobile phone, regardless of network.

When reporting incidents such as cable breakage or other incidents, customers are requested to provide the following information: a brief description of the incident, date and time of discovery, and exact location (barangay, town/city, province), and their name and contact details (mobile or landline number, email address). A landmark or photo indicating the place of incident will also be helpful. Other relevant information may be asked when necessary, in the course of the investigation.

“By working together, we can all help improve PLDT’s services as well as keep our communities safe from accidents that may be caused by low-hanging wires or open or broken manhole covers,” said Cathy Yang, FVP and Group Corporate Communications Head at PLDT.

These initiatives are part of PLDT’s continuing efforts to further enhance the quality of customer experience. PLDT operates the country’s most extensive fiber infrastructure, which spanned over 1.1 million kilometers as of end-2023. This fiber infrastructure also supports Smart’s mobile network.

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — Iliganons planted 10,000 mangrove propagules along the banks of the Mandulog River in Barangay Santiago on April 21, as part of their efforts to safeguard the marine ecosystem.

Dubbed “Mangrove Restoration, Coastal Cleanup, and MusiKalikasan,” the initiative took place as part of the activities for the Earth Day and Civil Society Organizations Month observance this April.

It was organized by the Iligan City People’s Council (ICPC) in collaboration with the city government, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC), and the Santiago Barangay Council to rehabilitate the city’s coastal waters and foster environmental awareness among Iliganons.

Students from various educational institutions, together with law enforcement and military personnel, as well as representatives from national government agencies, private organizations, and other sectors, took part in the mangrove planting.

“We mobilized more than a thousand Iliganons from various organizations, formations, schools, and socio-civic groups, among others, because we want to make a statement that in Iligan we are one in taking care of our mother earth,” said ICPC chairperson Abel Moya.

Moya also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the city by planting mangroves to mitigate the impact of disasters or calamities, particularly in light of past experiences such as Typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) in December 2011.

Ralph Mondoñedo, a student from Barangay Bunawan, an inland community within the city, demonstrated his commitment to environmental stewardship by rising early to partake in the mangrove planting effort. For him, the act of planting mangroves holds the promise of community enhancement.

Nursing students from IMCC also echoed the importance of environmental stewardship through tree-planting initiatives.

Kylene Danielle Ong underscored that it is crucial to care not only for fellow human beings but also for the environment. She stressed that the vitality of both humanity and the environment are intricately intertwined, highlighting that a flourishing environment is essential for sustaining human life.

Kate Dianne Tingcang emphasized the pressing need to combat rising temperatures. She underscored the significance of tree planting as a practical step towards enhancing air quality and mitigating carbon emissions.

“As the saying goes, kung anong itinamin, yun din ang aanihin (what you sow is what you reap). If we put more pollution, more harm to the environment, more harm is going to come to us, but if we put more kanang mga maayo (good things) sa atong (in our) environment, mas maayo pa jud atong makuha (we will receive even better results),” she said.

The ICPC also organized an Earth Day Summit, where participants engaged in focused group discussions on environmental best practices, insights, and issues in Iligan City. Recommendations and insights were shared to address challenges and improve environmental sustainability in the city. (LELA/PIA-10 Lanao del Norte)

Davao City, Philippines – The Davao Bloggers Society (DBS) successfully hosted their first Valentine themed virtual hangout entitled “Love in the Digital Era: Valentine’s Then and Now” on February 10, 2024.  The event, co-presented by foodpanda, brought together different blogging communities and esteemed  brands for an insightful discussion on the evolution of love.

Organized by the DBS officers and headed by their President, Gem Tadefa, the virtual hangout was a  resounding success. Over 70 people joined the fun and shared their insights about love and relationships  in the digital age.

“We initiated the DBS Hangout tradition amid the pandemic to maintain connections with our members.  After the pandemic, it evolved into a means of fostering and fortifying relationships with other blogging  communities. The hangouts involve casual discussions on various topics and sharing stories in a virtual  setting,” Gem Tadefa said.

“The DBS Hangout “Love in the Digital Era: Valentine’s Then and Now” marks our first Valentine’s Day  special since 2020, and it’s a remarkable, highly engaging event. It’s puzzling why we haven’t organized  such specials before, but it has proven to be the most entertaining hangout to date. Despite the diverse  backgrounds of attendees from eight different regions, we all find common ground in one universal  language—love,” he added.

The event was graced by different blogging communities across the country, including the Bulacan  Bloggers, CDO Bloggers, Iligan Bloggers Society, Iloilo Bloggers, Inc., Negrense Bloggers, Palawan Bloggers,  and SOX Bloggers.

Attendees engaged in lively discussions exploring the differences between love in past generations and  the digital age. Topics ranged from long-distance relationships to expressing love through technology and  love languages. Speakers and attendees shared personal experiences, opinions, and insights, promoting a  lively exchange of ideas. The engaging and entertaining Michael Carbon, also known as Manay, hosted the  hangout and ensured that attendees remained captivated throughout the session.

Apart from the blogging communities, the virtual hangout was graced by representatives from Davao  Bloggers’ partner brands, who shared a bit about their agencies and what’s new in their industry. Jainy  Carilla of DM&A Co. told everyone to look forward as their agency has several campaigns in 2024. Kim  Vargas of Metrobank organized a fun trivia game about Valentine’s Day and highlighted Metrobank’s  reliability for banking needs. Ripple8’s Julius Macalagay and Michelle Opple introduced their agency and

its awards and engaged attendees with a mini-quiz. Jarren Mateo and Erwin Colcol showcased Cebu Pacific  as a trusted airline and generously gave away two roundtrip tickets to any domestic destination in the  Philippines.

As the Co-Presentor of the virtual hangout, foodpanda gave everyone ₱500 foodpanda gift vouchers. They  currently have a promo where you can get 200PHP off for selected foodpanda food merchants. Just enter  the code PANDA. T&Cs apply.

DBS President Gem Tadefa highlights that there will be more events for everyone this year. “The Valentine’s  Day special hangout won’t be the last. There will be more, and they will only get better and bigger. We are  working on something exciting, a project I cannot disclose. Content creators should stay tuned.”

The Davao Bloggers Society extends heartfelt gratitude to all its members, fellow blogging communities,  and partner brands for their support and participation. With more exciting events in the pipeline, DBS  looks forward to fostering further engagement and collaboration.

Makati City, May 19, 2023 – The women entrepreneurs of Accelerate Sulu are proud to announce their upcoming second national expo of cultural products, showcasing the diverse skills of women in the Province of Sulu.

The exhibition, titled “Anyam Hablun 2023”, will take place at The Gallery, 2nd floor, Greenbelt Mall 5, Makati City on May 25-27, 2023, and will feature an array of cultural products, including traditional weaves, handmade crafts, and delicious food, all created by the women entrepreneurs.

This event provides an opportunity for women from Sulu to come together and celebrate and promote their beautiful cultural heritage. It also serves as a platform for them to showcase their talent and ingenuity to a broader market.

“We are thrilled to be able to share our cultural products with the larger audience in Metro Manila,” said Ms. Rosemain Abduraji, Executive Director of Tumikang Sama-Sama Inc., who is working directly with Accelerate Sulu women. “We hope that this event will promote a better understanding and appreciation of our colourful cultural heritage.”

The exhibition will also feature live music and dance performances, and artisan demonstrations providing visitors with an immersive Tausug cultural experience.

“We invite everyone to join us for a day of celebration and learning,” added Ms. Abduraji. “This event is not only about highlighting our products but also a manifestation of gradual development in Sulu that is enabled by improved stability.”

The trade expo is part of a project called Accelerate Women’s Entrepreneurship for Peace and Prosperity in Sulu or Accelerate Sulu which provides economic opportunities to marginalized women in Sulu including former combatants, wives, and family members of former combatants, those affected by violent extremism, either directly as victims of violence, or family members of those involved in extremist groups. The project supports capacity development on product enhancement, packaging, and access to the market. In addition, the project aims to build a stronger social entrepreneurship network among women.

Accelerate Sulu is supported by the Australian Government and co-implemented by Tumikang Sama-Sama Inc. (TSS), the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), and The Asia Foundation (TAF).

In line with the celebration of National Women’s Month, the Iligan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Incorporation (ICCIFI) opened the 2023 Trade Fair, March 3, at Robinsons Place atrium.

The trade fair features the best products of 50 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the city, ranging from processed food, gifts, and housewares to fashion accessories, beverages, home style and living, and health and organic products.

ICCIFI President Reggie Punongbayan said the event is an opportunity for businesses, entrepreneurs, and community members to come together and showcase their products, services, and ideas.

“Iligan City is always been known for its rich culture and history. This event is a testament to the vibrancy and diversity of our community. As we explore the different exhibits and stalls, we see the ingenuity and creativity of our local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the students, who are also participating in this event,” she said.

Meanwhile, Department of Labor and Employment Lanao del Norte OIC Provincial Head Lawyer Safrali Cabili said the trade fair is a big accomplishment for the Iligan Chamber because it is one way of showcasing local products. “Nowadays, not all of us would prefer an imported product, and I think this is the start of patronizing our own,” he said.

Moreover, the chairperson of the Committee on Trade and Commerce Industry, City Councilor Marlene Young, extended her full support to the business community.

“Being the chairperson of the Committee of Trade and Commerce Industry, we would like to assure you that we will do our best to put our efforts, especially in my office, to pass the possible resolutions and ordinances to improve the life of our business owners in Iligan,” she said.

The MSMEs will continue to display their products until March 8. Other activities lined up include financial literacy, a cultural show, a women’s success story forum, and Kapehan sa Iligan Chamber. (CEC/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)

First and foremost, Tang Sweet Orange juice is made from real orange juice, which means it contains all of the goodness and nutrients found in this juicy fruit. However, the benefits of Tang Sweet Orange juice extend beyond the nutrients it contains. This delectable beverage is also an excellent way to stay hydrated throughout the day, which is essential for maintaining optimal health and avoiding dehydration. Drinking plenty of fluids can also help with digestion, fatigue, and maintaining healthy skin and hair.

And, of course, don’t forget about the flavor! Tang Sweet Orange juice has a tangy, citrusy flavor that will delight your taste buds. It’s the ideal way to add a little sweetness to your day, whether as a refreshing beverage on a hot day or as an ingredient in your favorite recipes.

It’s a refreshing and delicious way to stay hydrated and energized while enjoying all the fun and excitement that the beach has to offer. So whether you’re building sandcastles with the kids or simply relaxing in the sun, make sure to bring a bottle of Tang Sweet Orange juice with you to the beach. It’s the perfect beach companion!

Making handicrafts from abaca fiber is something that requires all handwork. It takes time to finish a product that is creatively made.

But now, women are doing well in the handmade industry and showing off beautiful designs and new ideas.

The Barangay Pala-O-based Pabahandi Women’s Association is one of the 10 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) run by women that took part in the trade fair held March 3–7 at the Robinsons Place atrium by the Iligan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Incorporation (ICCIFI).

Since 2010, the women’s association has used abaca fiber to make things like bags, leis, wallets, and other things.

Adelaida Rico from the Pabahandi Women’s Association is glad to have the chance to show off their goods. From March 3–7, they earned P10,000 from the trade fair.

“Sa mga kababaihan dinhi sa Iligan City, ug unsa may livelihood nga inyong gihimo karon, padayon lang gyud. Busa hinay-hinay mu-income ra gyud ang mga kababaihan alang tabang sa atong laing-laing pamilya,” said Rico.

(To the women here in Iligan City, whatever livelihood you are pursuing now, just keep going. You will slowly earn income to help your families)

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila dahil kahit papaano na popromote ang aking product lalong-lalo na itong product namin sa Tugaya na pinaghirapan namin dahil hindi naming ito matitigil kasi ayaw naming mawala ang signatura naming pagka-Maranao,” she said.

(I am grateful to them because my products are showcased, especially this product of ours in Tugaya that we worked hard for since we cannot stop it because we do not want to lose our Maranao signature.)

Pacalna said she is willing to teach her fellow women how to produce such products. She said that their business has helped empower the women in their communities as it provides livelihood opportunities for them.

Women’s determination and resiliency

Reggie Punongbayan, the president of ICCIFI, praised the women entrepreneurs who kept their businesses going despite the problems caused by the pandemic for their determination, hard work, and strength. She also encouraged them not to give up since failure is a stepping stone to success.

“Kung kinsa gusto magstart ug business, dili jud mu-give up. Kining failure muhatag sa success. Because of failures, makalearn ta ug makahatag sa success sa atoa,” she said.

(Whoever wants to start a business must not give up. Failure will lead to success. Because of our failures, we can learn something that will help us attain success)

Punongbayan also highlighted the importance of partnerships and collaborations. She also reiterated their commitment to supporting MSMEs.

Handicrafts made by women show not only creativity but also grit and persistence because they are made from real materials. Truly, women’s empowerment is thriving, and their success stories prove that they can make a difference through crafts. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
